Everyday, I would write in my diary whatever event was happening in the moment so later I can look back and learn the historical significance of it. Also, when I complete all of my diary entries, people can read and learn from it. This would enable them to gain the knowledge of what happened in the past.

Since the military is optional, I definitely wouldn't join since I'm not disciplined and don't think I have the strengths to fight for our country. I'm proud to be an American citizen and I can express my admiration for America in ways where my life isn't at risk. However, I give kudos to those who are enlisted and take risks like a champ. They deserve so much respect and praise which is why we have holidays to honor them such as veterans' day and memorial day.

It is unjust that African Americans were denied gaining citizenship while they participated in the Civil War. That should apply to their rights of being a US citizen. Just because the Civil War ended slavery doesn't mean the blacks stopped being discriminated. Manning fought for the rights of them to be educated and treated the same as whites.
